Which Type Of Candle Oil Should You Use?

The choice of the type of candles that you make will depend on many factors. You will also need to decide on the scent throw of your candle, the level of difficulty you are looking for, and what type of finish you would prefer to see on your candles. These factors can help you select the right wax for you.

There are many types of candles.

What Form Would You Like Your Candles To Use?

Pillar Candles

Pillars can be candles that are able to stand on their own without any sort of container. Paraffin, beeswax & palm wax are the best choices for creating pillar candles. To make pillar candles, however, you can also use wax mixtures.

Container Candles

Container candles can be candles that are made to fit in a glass container, metal tin, or any other type of container. You can make container candles with a variety of waxes.

Votive Candles

Votive candles measure approximately 2 1/2″ high and can be used in small glass containers. Votive candles can be made from a variety of waxes.

Taper Candles

Tapered candles, which are long and narrow candles, can be placed in candlesticks. Paraffin, beeswax, and beeswax provide the best waxes for making tapered candles.

Tarts

Did you realize that candles can be made without wicks? A wax tart, also known as wax melts, can be made from wax that has been melted in a potpourri/tart burner. To make tarts, you can use both paraffin wax and natural waxes like soy or safflower wax.

Gel Candles

Gel candles, which are soft and gelatin-like candles, can be made inside a container. Instead of wax, they’re made out of a mineral oil-based gel.

Types of Wax

Paraffin wax, also known by its straight name, is a wax without any additives. Paraffin wax for candle making can be used for many types of candles: pillars to containers, votives, tea lights, and tapers.

Soy Wax Flakes and Soy Wax

Soy wax is a 100% organic wax made from hydrogenated soybean oil. It comes in several forms, including soy wax flakes. It is perfect for making container candles. Paraffin wax candles can look and perform differently from soy candles. It’s worth learning about the properties of each type to help you choose which wax you want.

Palm Wax

Palm wax, another type of all-natural 100% wax, can be made by hydrogenating palm oils. Palm waxes make it possible to make unique candles. You can use palm wax to make tarts, votives, or pillars.

Beeswax

Beeswax also comes in a 100% natural form. Beeswax is an excellent candle wax. You can use it to make any kind of candle: pillars, tapers, or votives. You can also find it in beeswax sheets.

Gel Candle Wax

Gel candle wax does not have the translucent qualities of gelatin. It is instead made of mineral oil as well as a polymer resin. It’s possible to make container candles with clear glass containers and gel candle wax. You can make embedded object gel candles. In this case, you can insert decorative, non-flammable items into your gel.
